TAIM (Think About It Moment)

A Matter of Perspective . . .

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.  Each day has enough trouble of its own.”  Matthew 6: 34

Have you had those times that you are overwhelmed?  It could be a time when there is so much on the schedule that you don’t know how you are going to meet all the commitments.  Last Friday I was having one of those moments.  The week had been filled with emotions and the schedule through the coming weekend, and week, was jammed with commitments.  At noon of Friday, it got the best of me, and I just needed to get away from the office.

I found myself on the way to Susquehanna State Park along the Susquehanna River.  It was a beautiful afternoon with blues skies, puffy white clouds, and a nice breeze blowing.  A beautiful day to do some hiking on the trails and taking in God’s glorious creation. The bluebirds were singing and the buzzards were searching.  With grace and beauty, the Ospreys were spreading their wings as they dipped and turned, seemingly playing follow the leader. The wild flowers were hovered over by the honey bees that were covered with pollen.  God’s glorious creation was alive!

Then I saw the most amazing sight!  Along the trail there was a tall tree that reached for the sky.  On the trunk of that tree I saw an ant.  Yes, just a common ant climbing the tree.  The ant seemed determined to go higher on the tree.  Did I mention the ant was carrying a heavy load that was bigger than its body?  This ant was carrying a worm up the side of the tree.  It would climb for a time and then stop and rest.  Then the ant would climb a little higher and stop.  Slowly climbing up the tree a short distance at a time, and getting closer to the destination.  With determination and a heavy load, the ant would climb, stop, focus, and seemingly place a marker higher up the tree.  Then with sights set on that spot it would continue on to that mark and stop again.  It wasn’t long until it was out of my sight.

What a wonderful lesson!  Maybe God was reminding me to stop worrying about the long week ahead and trust Him to help me through today?   Maybe like the ant – I needed to stop – focus on today (and not the coming week) – set my sights on getting through today (with God) – one step at a time – and not on the coming week!

“So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Isaiah 41: 10

Sunday, June 8 is Pentecost

When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.  Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.  They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.  All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.  Acts 2: 1-4 NIV
