To Our Friends and Neighbors

We are sure that you all recognize that the Bethany Christian Learning Center (BCLC) has been an important ministry to the children and families of our neighborhood for over a decade.  The directors, teachers, and staff have touched literally hundreds of young lives by providing loving care and reflecting God’s love.  In return, the children and their parents have touched our lives and brought pure joy and laughter to this church.  Those of you who have interacted with BCLC staff can testify to their dedication and service, and those who have interacted with the children can attest to their unselfish love and unrestricted joy.  From its founding to today, the BCLC has been an important ministry that followed the example of Christ and opened the doors of our house of worship wider than ever, to provide loving care to Christ’s children.  It’s because of all of the blessings of the BCLC children, the families, and the staff that this letter is such a difficult one to write and read.

The unfortunate reality is that our analysis of church finances and the finances of the BCLC indicates that we can no longer afford to support a learning center.  It is with deep regret that we are announcing that it has become necessary to close BCLC, effective June 3, 2016, following this year’s graduation ceremony and reception.  This very painful decision has not come easily.  Please pray for the children, the parents, the teachers, and the director as we make this transition.  Reach out to them and show your gratitude.

This was a necessary action based on finances but by no means reflects a lack of commitment to children’s ministries.  In fact, we will -- with God’s help – intensify our efforts to minister to children of the community.  Help us to come up with innovative ways, and help us to look for new opportunities, to witness to children and youth of the neighborhood and beyond.  This house of worship is God’s house, placed on this corner to be a beacon to the community and a refuge to any and all who seek Christ’s love and care.  Let’s use our gifts, talents, and the facilities that have been entrusted to us to reach out to children, youth, and families with renewed vigor and in Christ’s service.

Again, we ask for your prayers for the BCLC children, parents, and staff, and we pray that Christ will lead us through this time of transition.

In Christ's Service with You . . .
