Happy New Year!
2017
“He Put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to
our God. Many will see and fear the Lord
and put their trust in Him. Blessed is
the one who trusts in the Lord!”
Psalm 40: 3&4
We
welcome the new year as we close the door to 2016. As the new year begins we often reflect over
the past year filled with memories.
Memories of happy times that cause us to smile and give thanks. Other memories move us to ponder those who
are no longer with us. Then there were those moments that overwhelmed us with unexpected challenges that were out of
our control. It may have been a job
change, health issues, the loss of a friend or loved one, the car breaks down,
etc.
Now
we have entered 2017. What lies before
us as we step into this new year? There
are many questions we can ponder. What
challenges are before us? Are there
changes lurking in the shadows of this new year? Will my health remain as it is? Will I be able to afford my health care? Will my child or grandchild make good
choices? What is going to happen as our
nation has a new president and cabinet?
What will be the direction of the United Methodist Church? And, who will win the Super Bowl? What will we face as we open the door of 2017? Just how do I approach the challenges and
changes in this new year?
Are
you willing to trust God? Is our hope in
the promises of God found in Isaiah 40 . . .
Verse
10 “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not
be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you
with my righteous right hand.”
Verse
13 “For I am the Lord your God who takes hold
of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.”
May
we all enter this new year with hope
in the promises of God. Trusting in the one who is and was and
always will be. Believing in the One who knows the way when we don’t know the
way. May we all walk with confidence in
the One who gave us His Son to be the Way,
Truth, and Life!
Happy
New Year! May God bless!
